What are these types of cases?

These types of cases are each slightly different.

"Hard Cases" and "Hard-Sided Cases" designate cases that are made of materials that do not lose their shape, bend or break during normal usage and during normal travel hazards such as being dropped while carried. Generally, this excludes cases whose sides are made of fabric, which are referred-to as "Soft-Sided Cases", and cases made of light-duty plastics. "Shipping Cases" and "Transit Cases" describe hard cases that are designed and manufactured to be appropriate to ship by common carrier. "Flight Cases" are shipping cases for airline shipment, a definition that is sometimes extended to include "Carry-On Cases". "Storage Cases" are hard cases that are designed and manufactured for the safe, clean storage of one or more important items, generally for a long time. Some storage cases are designed to be able to be used as shipping cases also. "Equipment Cases" refers to storage or shipping cases designed specifically to hold electronics, tools or machinery. "Metal Cases" are hard cases made entirely of metal. "Rack Cases" and "Rackmount Cases" indicate equipment cases with racks inside, usually mounted with a shock-absorbent system, to exactly position and protect computer networking rack equipment or audio rack equipment. "ATA Cases" are flight cases manufactured to exacting Airline Transit Authority (ATA) standards for maximum safety during flight. They are usually either metal cases or fabricated cases. "Fabricated Cases" are hard cases to which reinforcements are added to case sides, corners and / or hardware during manufacture, usually made of other materials. Common combinations are heavy-duty plastics of mixed types, and metal reinforcements and hardware with composite, wood or layered sides. "Monitor Cases" are hard cases, usually ATA cases, designed and manufactured expressly to hold televisions or computer monitors.

However, although the designs of these types of cases vary according to their intended uses and the nature of their intended contents, the constructions of these types of cases are very similar.

They all can have stock or custom exteriors made of plastic (including blow molded, roto molded and thermoformed), metal and wood. They all have custom or customizable interiors, usually made of wire-cut, die-cut or dice foam. These interiors serve to exactly position and protect your product or equipment. Lastly, all of them are available with a common set of options, including tilt wheels, recessed wheels, casters, recessed hardware, extension / telescoping handles, tool / instrument palettes, trays, partitions, compartments, dividers, custom printing, logo screening, etc.
